When the path starts raising questions

Changing career fields may feel like becoming a beginner again, but systems thinking, working with others, and learning through experimentation stay with us.

The characters in the sample story choose to create a small portfolio that shows their thinking, from defining the problem and researching through to what they tried and the results they found. Seeing the process helps show where existing knowledge connects with new skills.

You can start again without giving up everything you have learned

Break your goal down into small skills. Choose the one essential for your new job, then run a trial project to see where you need to improve. Asking people with experience helps you plan based on real situations.

Trial projects make new skills visible, from setting the question to reviewing results. A portfolio therefore does not only keep successful outcomes; it also helps you and others understand what was learned from trying.

A Message for Fellow TNI Members

Choose a small task that connects your existing skills with your new field, set a realistic deadline, and note what you still need to learn. Reviewing what you can already do gives your next step a clearer scope.

If you have an experience you would like to share, the association welcomes story ideas that could be developed into real interviews to help members from different cohorts learn from one another.
